I thought for a second, "Wow, this is my shot. I got laid off. I can be on a reality show. I'm funny."
But to no avail. Instead, they're going to fire people on TV...at the discretion of the employees (as ruthless as when Jason dumped Melissa on "The Bachelor?" Hit 'em while they're down, I guess.).
So basically, had my company been on this Fox show, my coworkers and I would have worked together to decide who to fire. Would I have voted for myself? Perhaps...so I could then make sure I'm at home to watch myself be fired on TV.

Instead of a vote-off format, they should base the firings on completely random challenges that have no bearing on the particular skill set of the given company. For example, an office of CPAs would battle it out in a joust tournament or pie-eating contest to see who gets shit-canned.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear about the job. When thinking about how to answer your poll, my natural inclination was to pick "Lawyer", because of the ties to the profession throughout your family. After I picked lawyer and read your blog, which I have to admit is a successful attempt at making a bad situation humorous, I came up with an amazing idea. I am sure you have already thought about this, but you could be a journalist who watches TV all day and then gets paid to write about it. Alright, this idea may not be very plausible, but at the very least it is an idea for your blog.
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, best of luck throughout your job search process. Almost every industry (law included) is feeling the pinch of this economy, but I am sure you will pull through.

ReplyDeleteI am confused, I didn’t see “smoothie/cupcake shoppe proprietor” as a choice in the poll?
ReplyDeleteP.S. Generally, I am not one to comment on blogs, so how funny is that that I am showing up as "James"- awesome!
Couldn't you just see all of us, Apprentice-style, doing challenges to see who got voted off? Something like, "Today's challenge is Page 4, only you have to do it blindfolded! GO!"
ReplyDeleteI sort of like that idea.
